One of our most fascinating musical imports and growing sensations currently would have to be the eclectic, ALT-pop musician, performer and producer Sven Eric Gamsky AKA Still Woozy who’s currently riding the momentum off the release of his first proper full-length album If This Isn’t Nice, I Don't Know What Is which is to be accompanied by a world tour in early 2022. In a press conference following the album’s release, the artist discussed his creative process, the impact of his debut finally being out in the world and what he’s truly excited for with the return of the live music experience.

“It feels like it represents the spectrum of things I wanna pursue more, there’s just so many things I wanna try… I don’t wanna be put in a box. There’s too many influences to make one type of music,” Gamsky says of how he feels his debut album represents his artistry and evolution.

Gamsky’s sound on previous records contained influences of R&B, electronic as well as rock and ambient music, and his latest record is just as varied and diverse sonically if not more so than previous releases. Like many artists, Gamsky recorded his album in the midst of the pandemic. While these circumstances can be challenging, he decided to utilize his situation to his advantage.

“Not being on tour really helped lift some barriers, slow down and just give me more time. It’s so hard sometimes when you’re on tour to be productive but not touring really lit a fire under me,” Gamsky says of how he cultivated his downtime to create his current record.

Like many artists, Gamsky is looking forward to being able to connect with his fans in real time and have them experience his debut live for the first time. “I’m really looking forward to people hearing the new songs live and singing them back. I’m really looking forward to that,” Gamsky says of what he's anticipating most about returning to performing. In terms of the music he’s recently created, Still Woozy’s brand of personal and introspective music has remained intact but also has progressed sonically and lyrically.

“For my previous songs I was by myself but for this record I worked with a producer and he really helped me stay on task” Gamsky speaks of how the recording and song craft process varied from beforehand. Despite the addition of an outside creative voice, Still Woozy’s music still remains uniquely his own while exploring fresh and exciting artistic territory. This motif is a notable representation of Still Woozy’s ability to deviate from the expected.

“I always have to follow what feels good to me and sometimes that’s not expected of me. But for me music has to pass the litmus test of 'does this resonate with me,'” Gamsky says of his ability to shift genres and styles and follow his own instincts. This work ethic has resulted in some of his most distinct and accomplished material yet and Gamsky is eagerly anticipating seeing which songs connect with audiences live. “I’m looking forward to seeing which moments and lines fan resonate with because music is so open to interpretation,” Gamsky says of how he’s anticipating audiences will resonate live with the latest record. When discussing the overall impact he wants to leave upon listeners and fans, Gamsky advocates the importance of individuality and prioritizing one’s mental health. “I want my music to help people who are struggling with mental health and remind them that they’re not alone.” It's the mission statement Still Woozy says he’s dedicated to maintaining in his music.

With his latest record and upcoming tour, Still Woozy is looking to enter his most exciting and diverse era yet.
