Asbury Park Vibes recently had the opportunity to chat with accomplished comedian Paula Poundstone. Paula has been at the forefront of the comedy industry for many years, blazing the trail for both women and men in this occupation. She was the first female comic, in its then 73rd year, to perform at the White House Correspondents dinner; and the first female standup to win the ACE award for Best Comedy Special on Cable television. In 2020, Time Magazine listed Paula’s HBO special, Cats, Cops and Stuff as one of "The 5 Funniest Stand-Up Specials Ever."

She is an author, actor, interviewer, commentator and hosts the weekly comedy podcast “Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone” which has just posted its 188th episode! How she found time to chat with us ... we'll never know! But our delightful - and very funny - conversation is well worth a listen.

And if you enjoy this podcast as much as we think you will, you'll definitely want to see  Paula perform her show live at The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, NJ on March 3rd. Click here for tickets!!!

Doug Dresher

Born from an existential argument between the modernists and postmodernists, I have found my home with the post-punks and those who love a good slice of pizza. I live in a world of art in the age of mechanical reproduction and the ever-elusive decisive moment. Punctum and Stadium aside, I like to take photographs of people and things to see how they look photographed. While I miss CBGBs, I think Asbury Park is as close as we are ever going to get to making punk whatever we make it to be. The future is unwritten and I owe it all to Mr. Bradley and Mr. Martin. Let us now praise famous men and ask the little prince for his thoughts. Sometimes I'm on the road, but If it wasn’t for the honor of the thing, I’d rather walk. My loving wife supports this albatross of an obsession and my kids put up with me well. BA, MFA, M.Ed., BCEA, Tri-X, and Nikon.

I’m a concert fanatic who snuck cameras into venues and festivals for years before taking the plunge into pit photography. Musicians fascinate me, as does the creative process. So, I combined my love of photography, writing, and music to create Asbury Park Vibes … a venture offering a unique blend of photography, journalism, podcasting, and live events for artist promotion. Our name is a nod to the vibrant music scene in Asbury Park, NJ – the best example of the way music helps shape culture and community!
