The Basics

1. YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

A: Brandon - I mean I pretty much have always been the best with everything I do so music wasn't an exception when my dad gave me a guitar even though I really wanted drums at the time but what ever anyway so I began to practice 8 hours a day for basically 3 years and now I'm solidly the most amazing showman possible with my incredible fingers and cool quirky faces and now I'm trying to become more musically inclined by listening to all the best guitarists

2. SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?

A: Justin - I thought of the name Days To Come one day while I was at my day job. I was frustrated because we had all of the pieces to form a band except for a drummer and it is always so difficult finding a drummer! I knew that we would eventually find one and everything would work out in the future, but that moment of frustration gave birth to the name.

3. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

A: Brandon - Discount Myles Kennedy and Friends. We’re positive and upbeat. We’re sarcastic, but we take the music seriously. We’re a rock band with pop and prog elements and high vocals.

4. HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

A: Justin - I met Brandon in 2013. I was picking up some acoustic strings from a local music store before a gig one day and I mentioned to the salesman that I was trying to start a band. He got me in touch with Brandon and we’ve been together ever since. We’ve gone through a few lineup changes over the years, but we really cemented our sound and focus when Jalen joined us in 2018.

5. IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

A: Jalen - There's a reason we're called Days To Come.

Music

6. A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

A: Justin - We just released our new EP, Animus (October 2020), and we’re excited to promote it. We spent the past few months of quarantine writing new music and we’re currently tracking that. We’ll release it in 2021.

7. HOW DOES THE BAND FLESH OUT A SONG FROM START (IDEA IN YOUR HEAD) TO FINISH (RECORDING)?

A: Justin - Typically, Brandon and I will get together with a few acoustic guitars. I’ll either already have lyrics and a melody, or will add one after we have a rough outline of the song. We’ll get with Jalen to add the rest and finish it up.

8. WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

A: Brandon - The Forgotten. It’s such a doozy. It’s the last track off of Animus (October 2020) and it’s nearly 10 minutes long, which is lit. It also really is nice musically. There are some tasty parts that go cutely out of key, but they sound nice.

9. PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE. [YOU CAN ELABORATE IF YOU’D LIKE!]

A: Jalen - Tame. Yeah, they're pretty chill for the most part, especially now that we're recording songs pretty much from our own houses by ourselves.

10. ANY MUSIC VIDEOS PLANNED OR IN PRODUCTION?

A: Justin - We’re currently working on some videos for the songs off of Animus (October 2020).

11. LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

A: Jalen - Got to go with a trusty ride cymbal with a really high pitched Bell, oof! Always great for a pre breakdown.

Influences

12. WHICH MUSICIAN OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

A: Justin - I grew up in a musician household. My dad and brother were always singing and playing music. I was pretty shy as a kid and started playing the guitar when I was 17. I remember listening to Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and other blues guys. I can’t play anything like them, but they definitely got me interested in the guitar. Nickelback actually got me into modern rock. My dad was in the military and I spent a lot of time overseas, so I missed out on a lot of popular music at the time. I remember finding Nickelback and just being mesmerized but the chunky guitar tones. This led to bands like Shinedown, Three Days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin. A few years later I found Alter Bridge and my life changed. Hearing them solidified what I wanted to do with music.

13. AN ALBUM THATS HAD AN IMPACT ON YOU.

A: Jalen - Probably most recently Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle. Every song on that album just puts me in the zone.

14. VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

A: Justin - I’m a massive fan of Myles Kennedy. I also really appreciate Adam Lambert, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Jeff Scott Soto, Claudio Sanchez, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and Jeff Buckley. There are literally so many fabulous vocalists.

15. GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

A: Brandon - For The Love Of God by Steve Vai. What a talent.

16. MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

A: Jalen - Flea for sure.

17. DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

A: Jalen - Josh Freese.

18. ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

A: Justin - Rolling Stones.

Performing

19. DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

A: Justin - I warm up and do some Wim Hoff breathing exercises.

20. FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE.

A: Justin - I’ve ripped my pants twice (two different shows). Good, and humbling times.

21. IF POSSIBLE, DESCRIBE WHAT PERFORMING LIVE FEELS LIKE FOR YOU.

A: Jalen - So much energy. It’s a rush of excitement.

22. IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE].

A: Justin - We’ve had the best time touring with Gandhi’s Gun (San Antonio, TX) and Ventruss (Baton Rouge, LA). It would be fabulous to touring with them at the same time. We also loved touring with Dellacoma (Melbourne, AU) a few years back. He’s pretty much the Australian Mark Wahlburg.

23. WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?

A: Justin - That there is always hope. The world can be a mess, but there is still beauty. We want our music to have a positive impact on our audience.

Goals, Events

24. MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

A: Justin - Knowing that our music has had a positive impact on people. Different people will come up to us at shows or message us and let us know what our songs mean to them. That’s one of the best feelings and I’m so thankful that our music is having a positive impact in the world. When I visualize the future of the band, I would like to see even more of that.

25. WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

A: Jalen - Much longer tour dates that reach further west.

26. UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?

A: Brandon - None currently. COVID-19 did a number on the live entertainment industry. We’re looking forward to being back on the road in 2021.

Personal

27. WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

A: Justin - My wife and I were able to see Nothing More at the original Masquerade in Atlanta, GA a few years ago. They were absolutely amazing and the energy they created on stage and in the room was perfect. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

28. BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN.

A: Justin - Don’t take it personally.

29. WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

A: Brandon - My Rubik’s cube.

30. WHICH OF YOUR BAND MEMBERS:

⇒ IS ALWAYS LATE? Justin

⇒ EATS THE HEALTHIEST? Justin

⇒ IS THE PRANKSTER? Brandon

⇒ IS THE TASK MASTER TO GET THINGS DONE? Justin

⇒ HAS A USELESS TALENT? Jalen

31. WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE TO DO?

A: Brandon - Sleep, League Of Legends, and Rubik’s cube.

32. IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?

A: Jalen - A Perfect Circle, Joyner Lucas, Breaking Benjamin, and Sevendust to name a few.

33. BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?

A: Brandon - Butthole Surfers. They’re great.

34. VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

A: Justin - Digital downloads. I prefer physical, but downloads are better for the environment.

35. WHAT SONG IS AMAZING, YET NOT VERY POPULAR?

A: Jalen - Feathers by A Perfect Circle...duh

36. AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

A: Justin - AB3. It’s a good one.

37. WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

A: Justin - Shiny from Moana. I have a four year old and we listen to it pretty much everyday.

38. WHAT SONG HELPED YOU WHEN YOU WERE HEARTBROKEN?

A: Jalen - I mean, there was never really a song that helped me through tough times, I just kind of listen to whatever sounds good to me at any given moment.

39. WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

A: Justin - Van Halen. I remember my parents introducing me to their music when I was really young. They’re one of my favorite acts and their music is so much fun.

40. WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?

A: Brandon - Have an undeniably gifted mastery of their instrument or voice and to be able to write detailed music. Not just brainlet tunes.
