BASICS

YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

Done it all! Played all over and now doing it again for myself.

SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?

It's just my name, it’s real. I was going to have a stage name but I think it’s sound cool enough.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

Acoustic blues rock I guess. That’s what I would say anyway.

HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

I am a solo artist so the stars aligned for me when I really found my sound about two years ago. Soulful bluesy and full of cool licks and vocal harmonies.

IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

Write for yourself from the heart and the fans will come.

MUSIC

A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

The next album. I am writing it now. It’s coming together really well and it’s going to be even better then this one. It’s my best stuff yet and I can’t wait to unleash it upon the world.

HOW DOES THE BAND FLESH OUT A SONG FROM START (IDEA IN YOUR HEAD) TO FINISH (RECORDING)?

It’s important to let the sound flow and get yourself out of the way. You can over think it a lot of the time. Normally I start with a few words or a riff and then it develops from there.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

Good Riddance to good times. I love how it came together. The vocals the harmony the Hendrix like melodic guitar. Love it.

PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE. [YOU CAN ELABORATE IF YOU’D LIKE!]

Long! When I get going I forget the time and leave the world. It’s the best thing for my brain to be honest. Ha!

ANY MUSIC VIDEOS PLANNED OR IN PRODUCTION?

Just done the first video For Up and Down and the next one starts in a few weeks. Really excited!

LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

Actually I just bought a vintage statesboro Paul Brett whisky sour acoustic and I love it. Plays well and I have bonded with it nicely.

Listen to Dean's Latest Album!

INFLUENCES

WHICH MUSICIAN OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. These two shake my soul.

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

Guns and roses appetite for destruction. Heard it a million times and we hear it a million more.

VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

Chris Cornell. The guy's amazing! He is a hero of mine if I am honest.

GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

Stevie Ray, Little Wing second solo. Goosebumps everytime.

MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

Sid Vish for bad ass! Jack Bruce for quality.

DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

Keith Moon, Ginger Baker

ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

Rolling Stones

PERFORMING

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

I have a quiet few mins and walk back and forth imagining how parts of the show will go. And focus my intention on exactly what I want.

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE.

Bass player in another band was sick on stage, had to move around it.

IF POSSIBLE, DESCRIBE WHAT PERFORMING LIVE FEELS LIKE FOR YOU.

Nirvana!

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

I am not sure who I would have one first, there’s so many good bands in my home town. I would support a blues legend though. Clapton would be amazing.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?

I want them to know that I wrote everything from my soul. I just want people to hear something that connects with them deep down. It’s all about tapping into the language of somebody's heart and mind and being able to connect.

GOALS

MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

Filling crowds 50 thousand strong and helping people get through times in there life by relating to my music. It’s helped me so many times when I listen to others. I hope to do the same.

WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

I want to release a single for the next album and I want to make to the top 20 that’s the goal.

UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?

I just had ten live shows cancel on me due to the lockdown rules. There will be some up coming live streams going out. And I will continue to build a fan base online for now. It’s a bit odd and nothing like playing live. But it will have to do for now.

PERSONAL

WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

I saw James brown before he passed. He was supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Man City Stadium. That was really something.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN.

No one is coming to help you. You are all you have got.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

I am not materialistic really. Got to be my guitars.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE TO DO?

Family time. I have two boys and one on the way. I love spending time with my children and my Mrs. I do it all for them.

IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?

Lots from the 90s at the moment. Ha! I love it still. You would also see Clapton, Kenny Wayne Shepard. SRV, The Eagle’s, Audioslave and GnR

BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?

Smokestack Lightning

VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

Vinyl all the way. We throw on Sam Cooke and other old soul like that all the time. It’s the best.

WHAT SONG IS AMAZING, YET NOT VERY POPULAR?

Don’t let me down by the Beatles. Love that, sounds good a bit slower. Kelly Jones does an amazing version of it. What a voice!

AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

Thin Lizzy live and Dangerous! Brilliant live album.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

Audioslave's “I am the highway” such feeling in that it moves me so much.

WHAT SONG HELPED YOU WHEN YOU WERE HEARTBROKEN?

SRV little wing! It’s all there you can take that song anyway you want to go.

WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

Tina Turner and Jimi Hendrix.

WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?

Be a master on your instrument and with your voice if you sing. No half measures got to be the best.
