HOMETOWN

Somerville, New Jersey

BAND MEMBERS

Jaybee: Guitar

Kenny: Drums

Mike: Vocals/Harmonica

Jesse: Bass Guitar/Egg Shakers

BASICS

YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

Jaybee: I started playing guitar when I was a little kid because I thought it would look cool and then years later I started the band Dig Two Graves and we absolutely rip.

SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?

Kenny: Mike saw the phrase in a fortune cookie and thought it was perfect for the aesthetic we were going for and we all agreed.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

Kenny: Heavy Guitar, pretty piano, blast beats

HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

Jaybee: Me and Kenny have been boys since our band from 2nd Grade, “Tormented Dragons.” I met Mike in College in Philosophy class, and then we found Jesse on Instagram and thought he was cute.

IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

Kenny: Chonk

MUSIC

A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

Jaybee: We’re working on a whole bunch of songs and a cool album. It’s gonna be super hot fire. Expect a whole bunch of singles and then a fat album comin’ at ya.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

Kenny: I think it's a pretty close race between "Wick" and "So Below." Both just go so hard but for different reasons. "Wick" is just pretty and melodic and "So Below" has blast beats so it puts up a fight.

PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE.

Kenny: Chaotic. We never really play through our songs. We just kind of make fun of each other and discuss future plans at the same time.

LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

Jaybee: My kemper makes me the happiest boy in the world. Having every amp ever is super cash money.

Listen to Wick!

INFLUENCES

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

Jaybee: Bonito Generation is the soundtrack to my life.

GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

Jaybee: Hide’s solo from Rusty Nail by X Japan is probably my favorite. Specifically when he played it at their last live in 1997, and gave that badass smirk to the camera. He knew that was fire.

MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

Jaybee: Joel Carasquillo

DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

Kenny: The Rev

ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

Jaybee: They both suck. Music sucked from 1959 to 1994. Kenny: It revived a bit in the 70’s tho ^^^^^

PERFORMING

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

Kenny: We all make sure to thoroughly salt our hands to get the correct skin texture.

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE.

Jaybee: My pants ripped mid-set at Brighton Bar one time just like Spongebob’s did at the beach. I think I hid it pretty well though.

IF POSSIBLE, DESCRIBE WHAT PERFORMING LIVE FEELS LIKE FOR YOU.

Jaybee: I hate it for the first three songs or so and I’m really bored, then I have a good time once I get into it.

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

Jaybee: I would want to open for Kero Kero Bonito, and have Elytra open.

Listen to Deathwish!

GOALS

MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

Kenny: Make so much cash money that I can afford to have 5 cats.

Jaybee: Free wings and beer at Buffalo Wild Wings.

WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

Kenny: Release some new singles and a music video. Potentially finish up our debut full length album as well.

UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?

Kenny: Hopefully we can get back out there soon. This stupid virus has kept things shut down longer than any of us were expecting.

PERSONAL

WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

Kenny: First time I saw Make Them Suffer in New York City was possibly the greatest show I’ve been to. Was so close to the stage it was insane

WHICH OF YOUR BAND MEMBERS:

IS ALWAYS LATE?

Jaybee

EATS THE HEALTHIEST?

We all eat pretty healthy ngl. Jesse probably takes the (vegan) cake tho.

IS THE PRANKSTER?

We’re pretty nice boys, no pranks here.

IS THE TASK MASTER TO GET THINGS DONE?

Technically Jaybee, but Mike has to bully him into it.

 HAS A USELESS TALENT?

Kenny can move his head muscles.

VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

Kenny: Vinyls for best quality. Digital streaming for convenience.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC,WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE TO DO?

Kenny: Drink coffee and pet cats.

IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?

Jaybee: Kero Kero Bonito, The Gazette, Tkay Maidza, Rolo Tomassi, and Dir En Grey.

VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

Kenny: Vinyls for best quality. Digital streaming for convenience.

AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

Kenny: Too many to name but I’ll probably go with Infinity on High from Fall Out Boy

Jaybee: The Gummy Bear Album in stores November 13th.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

Kenny: Blinded in Chains - Avenged Sevenfold

WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

Kenny: My dad got me into Deep Purple at a young age so I would say that’s what got me into rock

WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?

Jaybee: They just need the sauce, you feel me.
