BASICS
YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.
I started early, me. So, from Shakin’ Stevens and Adam & the Ants onto Iron Maiden and Kiss, then I heavily got into the Bay Area Thrash Metal scene but still had appreciation for classic rock Thin Lizzy, Zeppelin etc. I started expanding into Jazz and Fusion, then Sly Stone, Parliament etc. went back to 60s stuff Doors, Beatles, The Who, Dylan… I then started getting into indie music such as Charlatans and Stone Roses at first and then Oasis came out and blew the doors wide open to popular culture then it became like a huge melting pot of decent mainstream music. Barnsley got promoted to the premiership in 97 and Labour got in power after 18 Years of tory rule. Fuck me! let's go back to that point and start again.
HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?
Me, Tye and Jamie started jamming together back in 2017, writing a few songs and playing covers. Nath, who used to work with me and Tye, came down in 2018 and that gave us a different approach which we built on and got our set together, did a few gigs, demos etc. Gilby came into the fold on drums about 18 months ago, and me and him were in a band together for years, so the stars have aligned well for sure and we’ve really gelled as a band and as mates.
MUSIC
A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.
We've been preparing to head down London again to record three more tracks, (plus we've got unfinished business with some Millwall fans), one is a tune called ‘Happy’ which has got ‘hit’ written all over it. I never usually say shit like that, as a self-deprecating type, but such is my confidence in this tune I don't mind setting us up for a fall. Get ready.
HOW DOES THE BAND FLESH OUT A SONG FROM START (IDEA IN YOUR HEAD) TO FINISH (RECORDING)?
Our song writing process is a collective effort, usually starts with us jamming in our lock up. We’ll get a vibe going and then when a good melody sticks Tye and Nath write most of the lyrics but we all add good ideas from time to time. The lyrics are mostly about past life experiences whether they be personal or about stuff we have seen or heard. We just tend to let it happen organically.
PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE.
Magicdarts!

INFLUENCES
WHICH ARTIST OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?
The 3 A’s - Angus Young, Ace Frehley, Adrian Smith
AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.
Pink Floyd - Animals
VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?
Ronald Isley
GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?
Stairway to Heaven. Sod the cliche, have you heard it recently? It's just perfection. And also Alex Lifeson’s solo on La Villa Strangiato by Rush.
MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?
Jaco Pastorius.
DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?
I could kill a lamb chop. There's lots of different styles, I do like John Densmore of the Doors and what he brings to the songs with his dynamics, there's a zillion drummers out there with chops
ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?
Come on man, I love them both. I’d be more inclined to listen to the Stones these days, especially the Beggars Banquet to Exile period late 60s, early 70s.

PERFORMING
WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?
We hope the fans will get where we are coming from, really enjoy the vibe we create and relate to the lyrical content in an uplifting way. We thank them for their continued support and optimism, and we will see them out on the road in the coming years.
GOALS
WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?
We are working on another EP, so hopefully we will be in the studio in July of this year recording that. Then it's a case of promoting that and furthering our presence online and in the real world, just growing and evolving as a band and keeping the creative flow sustained and our spirits up.
UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?
Not much on the cards, due to the covid restrictions.
PERSONAL
WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?
Dr. John at Holmfirth Picturedrome is up there. It still feels like a dream to be honest, The Night Tripper virtually in my own backyard, only about 15 miles from Barnsley, he recently passed away so i always feel grateful that I had the opportunity to catch him live. Fantastic musicianship from the whole band, they opened up with Iko Iko. It must have been just after Hurricane Katrina, I remember the good doctor having a rant about the US government's terrible handling of the crisis. George W Bush was president. Great gig.
IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?
Ennio Morricone, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Sigur Ros, Shakti, The Blue Nile, Sly & The Family Stone, Bob Marley.
BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?
God knows, there's loads of bad ones. Marshmallow Overcoat. That’s one for intimate fans of The Last Waltz, probably one of the finest works of concert film that’s ever been produced.
VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?
All of them, though perhaps not cassettes. I usually just watch stuff on Youtube. My listening habits have changed a lot in the last 10 years, I feel like I'm at peak saturation point and have been for a while. That must be part of the reason why most new music doesn't do much for me. It probably would, but it's like I ran out of storage.
AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.
Just one? Joni Mitchell - Blue
WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?
Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’. And ‘Suddenly Seymour’ off Little Shop of Horrors film, haha.
WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?
Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn
WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?
Good musicians are abundant aren't they, it all depends on whether the music connects with me personally, but great musicianship doesn't have to be a prerequisite for that. Truly great musicians to me are the jazzers, people like John Mclaughlin, John Coltrane and Chick Corea. It’s a subjective pursuit at the end of the day.
