THE BASICS

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

A healthy blend of modern metal genres with influences from older bands. Thrashy Metalcore with Djent/Death/Rock/Prog influences.

HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

The stars sure did take their time haha. I am the only member remaining from that first official Eternal Closure lineup. It's really just a matter of pushing forward no matter who abandons ship. Hopefully this is the last time though, some stability would be nice!

MUSIC

A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

We're writing a lot of new material for a new album. It's a lot of work but the songs really are coming together nicely.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

Either “Survive” or “Defying Gravity”. If you don't like either of these songs you probably won't like us. It's as good music as I can write, at least for now. “Survive” has the strongest moments and “Defying Gravity” is my “perfect” song.

PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE.

Shenanigans!

LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

I love my Cort 7-String guitar that I bought a few months ago. First time having an actual 7-String and I've been spamming the open string into oblivion for sure. It plays like a dream and the locking tuners are something I never knew I needed until now.

INFLUENCES

WHICH MUSICIAN OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

My dad loves Rush and listened to quite a bit of Dream Theater. I didn't love them as a kid (probably overexposed haha) but now they're two of my favorite bands. My favorite band as a kid and the band that pushed me towards heavy music was definitely Linkin Park.

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

“Fortress” by Protest The Hero is really close to my heart. There's no other album that I listened to as much in high school. It pushed me towards really starting to play guitar seriously.

VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

There are so many. But I wish I'd be able to sing like Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust. I love the soulful but powerful vocals. I don't have that voice and it makes me sad.

GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

“The Spirit Carries On” by Dream Theater. The whole song really. I probably is my favorite song period. It resonates with me deeply even if there's a religious/spiritual aspect to it and I'm an atheist. I don't know how they do it but everything in that song is how it should be.

MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

Geddy Lee from Rush is pretty much unmatched as far as writing and playing the perfect bass lines.

DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

There are too many really. Matt Halpern from Periphery really does some unique things on the drums. There may bit a tiny bit of “overplaying” in parts but overall his style really gives an edge to Periphery that wouldn't be there otherwise.

ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

I kinda hate The Rolling Stones so the choice is really easy. The Beatles were amazing songwriters and deserve pretty much all the hype around them.

PERFORMING

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE.

My guitar suddenly not working right before a guitar solo and our vocalist just singing the solo. I was frustrated and stressed out but for the crowd it was a great moment.

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

A really great band from our scene is Suicide For a King. Check out their song “Misconception” if you haven't already. Playing with them for a band like Currents would be really sweet.

GOALS

MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

I see us living from our music. For me that is plenty. I don't need the huge rockstar lifestyle with infinite amounts of money. If enough people love us where we can make money making music, it's pretty much the dream for me.

WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

This year will probably still be relatively calm for us this year, but we plan on recording new material sooner than later. I can't wait, the recording process is my favorite part of making music.

PERSONAL

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

Anything music related is really hard for me to depart with haha. If I had to choose one guitar to keep, it would probably be my Gibson guitar. It's not “the best” guitar ever, but I love how it looks and how much fun I have playing it.

WHICH OF YOUR BAND MEMBERS:

IS ALWAYS LATE?

Nobody really, we're all pretty responsible usually. Philippe (my brother) maybe?

EATS THE HEALTHIEST?

Philippe again. He's pretty intense on what he can eat and when. I would never be able to do that, I love snacking and Pizza too much.

IS THE PRANKSTER?

Nobody really and I'm thankful for that. I hate most pranks to be honest. If you asked who's the clown that would probably be me. Always spewing out nonsense and making memes.

IS THE TASK MASTER TO GET THINGS DONE?

Philippe (guitar) is pretty organized and takes things seriously. I don't think we'll ever complain that he hasn't done something he should've.

HAS A USELESS TALENT?

Jonathan can make a quacking noise that makes me laugh everytime. I can burp on command too which is pretty useless.

BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?

Rage Against the Machine. Simple, badass and perfectly represents the band.

WHAT SONG IS AMAZING, YET NOT VERY POPULAR?

“Outliers” by Aviations. A wonderful progressive metal journey that everybody should listen to.

AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

“Bilo 3.0” by David Maxim Micic. So beautiful and varied. Every time I come back to it I'm amazed at how these songs are put together.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

“Lucid” by Polaris. It's a pretty “typical” metalcore song but it hits all the right beats.

WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

“Moving Pictures” by Rush. Our dad pretty much forced us to love it and I do haha.
