BASICS

YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

Formed in 2011 as a studio project the band went through various iterations before the previous lineup which produced the first self-titled album released in 2017 with 7Hard Records followed by a lineup change and subsequent recording and release of our four-song EP Falling Down in 2020 again with 7Hard Records.

SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?

It’s basically a Frankenword. Steve was tossing words around. He liked the sound of “surreal” and “forever” so he spliced them together into a Frankenword: Evereal.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

We might be classed as symphonic metal. Metal guitar, drums and bass with clean female vocals and orchestral elements like strings and piano. You could also call us Femmetal.

HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

The previous lineup kind of ran out of steam after the first album and kind of went into hibernation. Steve was really getting into Evanescence and decided to put together an Evanescence tribute band called Foreverescence. That’s when Nelson came aboard on drums. He was playing in another band with Alicja and she just happened to be a big Amy Lee fan so we recruited her to the band. In order to resurrect Evereal we needed a new singer so we asked Alicja and she has never left. Turns out she and Steve are a very good writing team.

IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

Evereal: Music to bang your head to while meditating.

MUSIC

A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

Alicja: A cover song made popular by a very popular POP star, that is all I’m going to say.

HOW DOES THE BAND FLESH OUT A SONG FROM START (IDEA IN YOUR HEAD) TO FINISH (RECORDING)?

Alicja: Stephen usually has ideas mapped out and sends them to us. I will start putting melodies and lyrics to it at home and send them back and we go back and forth with notes and then eventually we will get together to lay the vocals down more solidly and then listen to it for a while, more notes and tweaks. Eventually we get there.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

Off the new EP it would be "When You’re Gone." Just listen to the way the song builds from start to finish.

PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE. [YOU CAN ELABORATE IF YOU’D LIKE!]

Business. Our rehearsals are short and focused. We don’t rehearse for more than two hours and we don’t screw around. We get right to work. We are all business.

ANY MUSIC VIDEOS PLANNED OR IN PRODUCTION?

Alicja: I do have a planned video in mind for the cover song I alluded to earlier, hoping to get that done this year as well.

LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

Alicja: My Line6 AmpLIFI, although I have not used it yet…

Steve: My Helix has been a game changer. While I love an amp cranked up in a room the Helix has saved my ears and changed the way I record.

"When You're Gone"

INFLUENCES

WHICH MUSICIAN OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

Nelson: it was Led Zeppelin and Rush.

Alicja: I was much more pop in my earlier days so Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera really impacted me.

Steve: No one musician inspired me to become a musician. That would have been family encouragement. But who inspired me to become professional? Probably Rush, Maiden,Priest,Zeppelin.

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

Nelson: 2112 by Rush

Steve: Moving Pictures, Fragile, British steel, Number of the Beast, Blackout, Images and Words

VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

Nelson:Ronnie James Dio .

Steve: John Arch

GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

Nelson: Jimmy Page’s solo in Stairway to Heaven

Steve: Dead of Night by Alan Holdsworth. It is so different yet melodic and technically impossible to play.

MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

Nelson: Billy Sheehan

Steve: Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Stu Hamm

DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

Nelson: Mike Portnoy.

Steve: Peart, Portnoy

ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

This may cause a serious argument. Nelson is going with The Stones.

Alicja: Rolling Stones yeah buddy

Steve: Beatles...hands down.

PERFORMING

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

Alicja: I always warm up my voice and once I’m warm I actually stop speaking until after the show to save my voice. People are always coming up to me and in a loud venue it is so easy to strain the voice so I just don’t bother.

Steve: I scope out the venue and the crowd before the show. I Like to wander through the crowd and see what the vibe is.

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE.

At one of our gigs Nelson had to stop the song because his snare stand collapsed and his snare fell on the ground. Actually that wasn’t funny at the time.

IF POSSIBLE, DESCRIBE WHAT PERFORMING LIVE FEELS LIKE FOR YOU.

It’s like rock climbing: It can be both thrilling and scary and any wrong move can be disastrous so you better pay attention.

Steve: Nerve wracking and exhilarating… If it flows and the crowd is hyped...there’s nothing like it.

Alicja: The first song is scary but then I’m good after that. It is like MAGIC.

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

Steve: Supporting Within Temptation, opening for us Fifth Dawn.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?

Nelson: That we’re Canadian. You just don’t see a lot of symphonic metal bands coming out of Canada.

Steve: We hope they get satisfaction and emotional response from the music. Listen closely to the words and then follow the music to see if you find the hidden meaning inside of it.

GOALS

MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

Alicja: Writing music and recording and performing music as a day job. That is a dream.

Steve: I agree with that. The ability to make a living off of music is a dream and has become elusive as the industry changes.

WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

Aicja: Release new music!

UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?

Alicja: Nothing yet but check out our socials mentioned before and you will be in the know!

Steve: Nothing has opened up yet and in fact most festivals and venues have closed for this year.

"My Heart Is Broken"

PERSONAL

WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

Steve: I’ve seen so many but I had the pleasure of seeing Stevies Ray Vaughn just before he was killed. That was memorable in so many ways.

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN.

Alicja: Don’t listen to the haters or nay sayers.

Steve: |Don’t read reviews… some are good and some are bad, that’s just the way it is. The critics hated Led Zeppelin and look where that got them...

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

Alicja: Besides my car, my Larrivee acoustic guitar. It is lovely.

Steve: My home. It’s where I lay my hat and where I have my studio that helps us create all this music.

WHICH OF YOUR BAND MEMBERS:

Nelson: o IS ALWAYS LATE? Gord the bass player

o EATS THE HEALTHIEST? Alicja

o IS THE PRANKSTER? Steve

o IS THE TASK MASTER TO GET THINGS DONE? Steve

o HAS A USELESS TALENT? I can tell you all about the collapse of Bronze Age civilizations. That’s kind of useless, right?

Alicja: ● IS ALWAYS LATE? It used to be Gord and now I think it’s me lol!

● EATS THE HEALTHIEST? Me lol

● IS THE PRANKSTER? Gord

● IS THE TASK MASTER TO GET THINGS DONE? Stephen but we are trying to lighten the load for him.

● HAS A USELESS TALENT? Don’t we all?

WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE TO DO?

Alicja: Workout/weightlift/read/sleep

Nelson: Mountain climbing, bicycle touring and backpacking.

Steve: Skydive and lion tame…. just kidding, I like to hike and work on cars and guitars.

IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?

Nelson: Nightwish, Sons of Appollo,Glorious Sons.

Steve: This week?.... Within Temptaion, Evereal, Saga, Roger Hodgson, We are the Fallen.

BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?

Alicja: Sorry kids cover your ears please, one of the bands I was in was called “New Direction” but if you said it really fast can sound like “Nude Erection” lol.

Steve: the “Frayed Knots”...get it ? “Afraid Not”…. I hired their drummer to play on one of my recordings.

Nelson: Rush, hands down

VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

Alicja: CD’s for me but I lack space so downloads as well, I want to get into vinyl as well.

Steve: Vinyl, just for nostalgia sake.

AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

Steve: Moving Pictures. It was such a perfect album.

WHAT SONG HELPED YOU WHEN YOU WERE HEARTBROKEN?

Nelson: Love Stinks by J Geils Band.

Steve: At some of the darkest times of my life I discovered Enya from an east Coast friend that gave me one of her albums. (she couldn’t listen to it as it made her cry and miss home too much)...

WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

Alicja: My dad introduced me to Queen, thanks dad!

Steve: My dad was into swing and Big band… I learned to appreciate Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey etc...

WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?

Steve: Great songwriting. what’s great playing without great songwriting to highlight it… I would rather hear a well written song than a great solo in a crap song.
