YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

In the past and up to now, I only participate in musical projects & musicians that my heart tells me to be part of and work with!

SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR BAND NAME?

The band name kind of fits our musical path just so good. My path as an artist as well as how the band got together was never really a straight path. We experienced twists and turns, ups and downs but we always followed our hearts. So the “Ivy” part of the band name represents exactly that path in a way … and GOLD stands for my golden boys and also the golden times coming up in the future! I have always been optimistic and I have always believed in good fortune and destiny. So Ivy Gold is a combination of all of my beliefs and values!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

Female fronted contemporary bluesrock would be a general term. Going deeper I would describe our songs as being full of energy yet very emotional, at times very rocky, then melancholic. The band knows exactly how to bring Rock-, Blues-, Funk- and Prog-song material to its full potential.

HOW DID THE STARS ALIGN TO BRING YOU ALL TOGETHER?

Ivy Gold got together kind of by coincidence - OUT OF THE BLUE. Sebastian and I had done a pre-production of a bunch of our songs. We initially just wanted to see what our songs sound like and that was it in a way. Most of the songs actually sounded pretty good and the idea came up to send the demos out to a few people and see what happens. Tal Bergman works with Joe Bonamassa and at home we listened to his band Rock Candy Funk Party quite a lot - so one evening I took all my courage I had inside of me and contacted Tal asking him if we would be willing to play drums on our songs. And guess what - he liked our music - believe me - I was thrilled! From that point on we knew we had something special going on - totally out of the blue we had a project and we decided to put a great band together, not only for the studio but also for live touring. Our friend Kevin Moore joined right after and then I asked my dear friend Sari Schorr to help me find a great keyboard player - that’s how we found the awesome Anders Olinder from the UK. And then I had put together a very special cosmopolitan band with members from the US, the UK and Germany!

IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

OUT OF THE BLUE - FOR YOU!!

MUSIC

A PROJECT YOU’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON THAT YOU’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

We are currently working like crazy on the release of our debut album “Six Dusty Winds” out on March 26 in the UK.

HOW DOES THE BAND FLESH OUT A SONG FROM START (IDEA IN YOUR HEAD) TO FINISH (RECORDING)?

The creative process varies of course as writing music is not a linear process. Sometimes I have something on my mind and bits and pieces of lyrics just arise. Oftentimes Sebastian comes up with some great guitar riffs and plays it to me. Sometimes there is a melody right in my ear, sometimes not. At times the lyrics are the beginning. So it’s a mixture of it all. After we have some sort of a structure, we go into the fine tuning of the song. And in the end - get the band together to make it sound real good!

ANY MUSIC VIDEOS PLANNED OR IN PRODUCTION?

We have 3 videos out already as we released 2 upfront singles last year and for the album release in Germany on March 12, we also released another single & video... So fans can actually have a look & enjoy videos for the songs “Six Dusty Winds, “Retribution” and “Shine On”on Youtube! Currently we are working on more material for videos. So it will be very exciting to film new footage and put it all together in a great video as well!

INFLUENCES

WHICH ARTIST OR BAND INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

I really liked Sheryl Crow a lot many years ago and got inspired to take vocal lessons. I even felt guided to take guitar lessons which I really always loved. Initially I took classical lessons for a couple of years which gave me the opportunity to work on a good singing technique. I considered singing somehow to be my own personal therapy, a way to stay healthy and in a positive overall condition. So over the years things developed and I started to participate in different gospel projects, local bands and finally ended up writing my own songs with Sebastian.

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

Oh that’s a hard one. There are so many great musicians and albums out there! I listen to many male rock singers such as Steve Lukather, Glenn Hughes, Richie Kotzen… so I guess those guys had a great influence on me :-)

VOCALIST YOU ADMIRE THE MOST?

As mentioned above, I mainly listened to male singers coming from rock and blues. At times when I was into Soul music a lot, I listened to Joss Stone. She’s got a great voice

GUITAR SOLO THAT ALWAYS GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS?

I love Sebastian’s guitar solos!! But Steve Lukather’s solo on “While my guitar gently weeps” is great!! I get goosebumps every time I listen to it.

MOST BAD-ASS BASSIST?

T.M. Stevens

DRUMMER WITH KILLER CHOPS?

Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy and of course Tal Bergman!

ROLLING STONES OR THE BEATLES?

Beatles

PERFORMING

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

I hug the band, give them my vibes & emotions and tell them to have fun!

IF POSSIBLE, DESCRIBE WHAT PERFORMING LIVE FEELS LIKE FOR YOU.

Performing live is like the whipped cream on a cake! It tops everything you do as an artist and rewards all the hard work that is necessary beforehand. Being on stage is simply fun, seeing and connecting to the crowds, communicating with fans is really fulfilling! It opens up my heart to play my own songs and when people like our music as well it is the most wonderful feeling you can have.

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

I’d love to support Joe Bonamassa or Kenny Wayne Sheperd.. as an opener for us .. it can be any band really who is into bluesrock as well, any band that wants to get the vibes of music across as well!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?

I am hoping to reach out to the listeners heart and soul when listening to our music. Music is the universal language and it builds bridges amongst people, cultures and all races - music spreads so much good energy and brings a strong message across - I would love the listener to sense that as well.

GOALS

MOST DON’T ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT ... CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND VISUALIZE WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR ULTIMATE SUCCESS. WHAT DO YOU SEE?

To be on stage with Joe Bonamassa :-)

WHAT ARE YOU DETERMINED TO SEE HAPPEN FOR YOUR BAND IN THE NEXT YEAR?

Well, right now we are working hard on the album release, promoting the album, doing many interviews etc. In the near future we are determined to hit the road and play some live shows - but that all depends on how the outer circumstances will develop.

UPCOMING SHOWS, EVENTS, FESTIVALS YOU’RE PLAYING?

At this time, it’s hard to tell when shows and festivals are officially allowed! We are really hoping to play live very soon.

PERSONAL

WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

I saw Richie Kotzen live about 14 or 15 years ago in a small village in Italy, somewhere near Napoli. It was a really little venue and so hard to get to, took me forever to find the place but I was just determined to see Richie live again. At that time he was not so well known yet...

BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN.

If you love it - you have to do it!

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VALUED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

I am not a material person and try not to hang on too much on things but if I have to make a choice I would pick my microphones :-)

WHEN YOU’RE NOT PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT ELSE DO YOU LOVE TO DO?

I love to travel and meet people from all over the world! To stay healthy I spend a lot of time outside in nature…  jogging with my dog, hiking in the mountains.

IF WE WERE TO LOOK AT YOUR “GO-TO” PLAYLIST RIGHT NOW, WHO ARE SOME OF THE ARTISTS WE’D SEE?

Nina Attal, Ana Popovic, Sari Schorr, Richie Kotzen, Joe Bonamassa and many many more …..

VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, CD’s, OR DOWNLOADS?

Vinyls are great!! What an event listening to it :-)

AN ALBUM YOU NEVER GET TIRED OF LISTENING TO.

All SADE albums actually. I have them all and have listened to many 1000000 of times and still love it.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU CURRENTLY OBSESSED WITH?

“Keep on Moving” from Glenn Hughes

WHAT SONG HELPED YOU WHEN YOU WERE HEARTBROKEN?

The song “Is this Love” from Whitesnake healed my heart :-)

WHAT ALBUM OR ARTIST DID YOUR PARENTS INTRODUCE YOU TO THAT YOU LOVE?

ELVIS

WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?
