YOUR MUSICAL PAST AND PRESENT IN ONE RUN-ON SENTENCE.

Little King has been creating dynamic, progressive, alternative, ORIGINAL rock songs for 25 years and we ain't about to fucking stop now. In fact, we are in our absolute prime!

SORRY, BUT WE HAVE TO ASK … WHERE DID YOUR BAND NAME COME FROM?

"Ryan" means "Little King" in Gaelic. Also...don't let the little king do the thinking for the Grand Marquis.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO HASN’T YET HEARD YOUR MUSIC?

Cunnilingus with instruments? Without the genitalia.

IF BANDS WERE REQUIRED TO HAVE A SLOGAN … WHAT WOULD YOUR BAND SLOGAN BE?

Fuck Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! No, really...

WHAT’S NEW IN YOUR LIFE AND WORK? DESCRIBE THE GREEN, GROWING, CREATIVE EDGE OF WHAT’S ABOUT TO BLOOM.

New record called Amuse De Q comes out September 3rd, so that's exciting and gratifying for sure. Have one single out called "Keyboard Soldier" and another, "Bombs Away," that was released August 6!

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE BEST SONG YOU EVER RELEASED, AND WHY?

I really like "Happy Home" from OD1 in 2014, "The Skin That I'm In" from Occam's Foil in 2019, and the entire new album, which is my best work ever. Honorable mention to "Hate Counter" from Occam, "Collateral Damage" from Legacy Of Fools in 2008, and maybe "Peacemaker" from Virus Divine in 2003 as well. as each of these balanced the music and lyrics equally to make the statement that was intended, and that's a really hard thing to do.

PICK ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES WHAT YOUR REHEARSALS ARE LIKE. WHERE DO YOU REHEARSE?

Non-existent, right now. We are talking.

LET’S GEEK OUT FOR A SECOND … TELL US WHAT YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PIECE OF MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IS RIGHT NOW.

My favorite Question. I just bought a Jackson Dinky Pro Series with the Fishman pickups and a baked white ash finish. Dropped that bottom string down to D and wrote 2 new songs already...inspiration by an instrument is a very real and satisfying phenomenon.

LISTEN!

WHICH ARTIST OR LIFE EXPERIENCE INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A MUSICIAN?

Neil Peart, Donald Fagen, David Byrne, Waters/Gilmour, Bruce Dickinson, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Tupac, Snoop, Dre, Peter Tosh, Jerry Garcia, John Lennon, you.

AN ALBUM THAT’S HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOU.

Oh I think Naked by Talking Heads or maybe Countdown to Ecstasy by Steely Dan are in my personal Hall of Fame. All the Rush albums (goes without saying) have been profound, too.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-SHOW RITUALS?

It used to involve alcohol and maybe some other stuff. I've been sober for almost 2 years, so the next time we hit the road will be an entirely new experience. I definitely like to warm my fingers up for 15 minutes and sing scales or Bono or Chris Cornell for a bit, too.

FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE ON STAGE OR ON TOUR.

We were attacked by 25 people dressed up as Salamanders in Soccorro, NM. Full on brawl, and a couple of them lost a tail and/or snout.

IF YOU WERE SECOND ON A THREE-BAND BILL, WHICH BAND WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SUPPORTING AND WHICH BAND WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN FOR YOU? [GOOD CHANCE TO PLUG A NEWER BAND YOU REALLY LIKE]

Coheed and Cambria, Little King, The Fitzkee Bros. in Lewes, DE. Those Fitzkees are awesome young musicians down in Sussex, Delaware, and I think they are destined for long musical careers as well.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR FANS GET FROM YOUR MUSIC? IS THERE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE THEM TO KNOW?

I would like to give them a deeper look at themselves through the lens of our music and words. You're capable and loved and have control of your destiny, which should be internal happiness without any external harm...

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST SURPRISE SO FAR ABOUT MAKING MUSIC YOUR CAREER, OR A BIG PART OF YOUR LIFE?

The obsession of it, really. It's really getting even more fun 25 years in, which is fucking amazing.

WHAT CONCERT DID YOU ATTEND THAT YOU’LL NEVER, EVER FORGET?

Mmmmmm...David Byrne in Camden with my son, Asher, who was about 10 at the time. It was...inspiring...and FYI Asher has a keyboard solo and pad part on one of our new songs, "Set It Down." Bragging on my kid, 3rd sentence.

SHARE ONE QUIRKY THING ABOUT YOU OR YOUR BAND THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW.

I can spin a basketball on my finger for an indefinite amount of time over 1 minute. I have been a vegetarian for 25 years, and I taught high school English on the border in El Paso.

BEST BAND NAME YOU EVER HEARD?

American Cheese Death

WHAT’S YOUR BENCHMARK FOR A GREAT MUSICIAN?

Ahhhh...for me, the ability to enjoy (most of) your own work after 25 years. Everything else is, quite honestly, totally meaningless.
