VENDETTA ROSE & REALITY SUITE BRING
WHITE-HOT ROCK N' ROLL TO ASBURY LANES
Asbury Park Vibes recently had the opportunity to attend an amazing show, at none other than the hotspot Asbury Lanes featuring four “rockin” local bands who can bring it!! Who? Who else but Nick Ryan and The Mess, The Flukes, Reality Suite and Vendetta Rose.
I have to admit that I’ve never seen these bands before live, but they’ve been on my bucket list, having heard the hype behind these rockers!
NICK RYAN & THE MESS
Nick Ryan and The Mess took the stage to a seemingly wary crowd, given the current state of affairs, but that didn’t seem to slow them down for a second. Leading the ensemble was none other than Nick Ryan, hence the name, and what a front man he was. He kept the crowd thoroughly entertained during their entire set with his backup band: Jimmy Franklin on guitar, Julian Michalski on bass, Casey O’Connell on the keys, Jordan Bowen kickin’ it on the drums and Michael Squillace on the horn (the SAX that is)! How could you even think this was going to be a bad performance?
At one point, Nick and Jimmy took to the stage to the bar, and performed under an artistry of bowling bowls resembling the American flag! Quite impressive to say the least!! This band is definitely worth the follow and I would strongly encourage anyone to get out there and check them out!!
Next up, The Flukes! Led by frontman Kyle Missry, this band continued the trend of keeping this crowd up front and close!! Behind Kyle was a group of guys, brothers in fact, who were in sync the entire time…..Anthony Trilli on lead guitar, Mike Trilli on bass and Joe Trilli on drums. This band had a lot of energy and I must say that Mike had my attention the entire time. Very dynamic blend, fun to watch and catchy tunes made this band an awesome part of the lineup for the night!! I could see that these guys had a local following and I know for a fact that I’ll be seeing more of these bad boys!!
If the first couple of acts weren’t enough, now it was time for none other than the powerhouse of Reality Suite!!! I came to the show specifically to photograph this group and was lucky enough to have witnessed the first two acts, but now it was time to get serious because I had a feeling I was about to put my photography skills to the test with Kimmii Heart leading the way. Having gone backstage prior in order to introduce myself (or in my mind get some sort of feel of what was about to happen), I left with both rigs in hand saying, “well, I’ll just have to capture what I can.” It was exactly what I expected. As a true pro, Kimmii was all over the stage, which I prefer by the way, and the other members of Joe Padula on lead guitar, Brian King on drums and Antonio Valenti of bass were as equally vibrant. Joe was a blast to capture, as if he knew what a photographer needed to capture. With a “Lita Ford” front-woman (sorry for the cliché) backed up by some hard-hitting, hard-strumming players, I’m so glad I was able to finally capture this band in a setting that not only was personal, but also allowed for some bangin’ hard sound!! I love seeing and hearing the rock vibe continue on and with this band, it will!! Catch them live, and you're guaranteed to have a great night out!!
Now, you’d think that would be enough right? Wrong!! Now it was time for the headliner Vendetta Rose! By the time they came on, I was lucky enough to talk to some in the crowd, including fans and family to gather some history, which with any band is always welcome. This local band certainly has a following that is quite impressive and the crowd let it be known they were there to see these guys!! Guys? Oh yeah, they are Alec Demello leading the way with his vocals, Ryan Graci on guitar, Kyle Crowley on bass and Joey Prince on drums. Personally, I don’t care how hold the musicians or group is, because at this point, they’re all younger than me anyway, but these guys truly performed as a professional group.
Every member was eye catching and knew their part. Joey was a hard hitter on those heads and Kyle was fun to watch and capture. Facial expressions say a thousand words and I was able to capture real moments with each of these guys, which is exactly what concert photographers look for! Interaction is also a big part of performing and they didn’t let that one slip away either! Oh, did I mention that Alec appeared at the end of Reality Suite's set and sang a duo of “The Shadow” with Kimmii? Sorry I didn’t, but I love surprises and that certainly was a good one!! Crowd loved it too!!
Usually, when shooting a show, it’s your basic opener and then the headliner but in this case, I didn’t get that vibe at all. In fact, I felt that each band fed and played off the other giving way to that traditional concert playbook! Get out there guys and check one, if not all of these bands out!! You’ll be just as thoroughly impressed as I was. Rock on!!
