After having heard a lot of chatter about DOGS IN A PILE, I couldn't wait to experience their performance at The Stone Pony on July 10th. And "experience" is most definitely the word I would choose to describe their show! An intoxicating concoction of psychedelia, jazz, fusion, funk, and rock music ... DOGS IN A PILE is a modern day jamband infused with the essence and soul of iconic bands like The Grateful Dead and Phish.

The intricacies, advanced technical skills, and mature pauses in their music belie the tender ages of Brian Murray (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Jimmy Law (Guitar, Vocals), Sam Lucid (Bass, Vocals), Jeremy Kaplan (Keys, Vocals), and Joe Babick (Drums). Three of the band members currently attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, an exclusive music conservatory that accepts only the brightest musical talents. However, all five band members exude unquestionable chops and stage presence which makes them distinctly stand out in the industry, and impossible to ignore.

DOGS IN A PILE also possesses one more key ingredient that any band today must have to ascend to the top. And that ingredient is a dedicated fan base. Their fan base goes deep and it goes wide. They had throngs of followers at the Stone Pony that obviously attend all of their shows, buy and wear their merch, push up to the stage to get as close as possible, speak adoringly of the band members, and are familiar enough with the band’s catalog to sing along with every single song. That is gold in today’s musical landscape and is a fundamental building block to long-lasting success.

DOGS IN A PILE released their debut album – Not Your Average Beagle - earlier this year. It’s a collection of tunes well-worth adding to your summer playlist which you can download by clicking below. Definitely put this group on your radar and join them on their ride to the top!

Diane DiMemmo is an avid concert fanatic and former musician who snuck cameras into venues for years before entering the pit as a professional photographer. After her first visit to Asbury Park, she immediately fell in love with its music community and recognized the need for a Jersey Shore publication to highlight the accomplishments of local and national musicians through photos and press. Asbury Park Vibes has been her labor of love ever since, along with her Golden Retriever – Cooper – who you’ll often see walking Diane through the streets of Asbury.
