For decades, George Benson has distinguished himself as one of the finest jazz guitarists of all time. And Friday night he was out to live up to that distinction. By the 70’s and early 80’s he soon became a household name. His album, Breezin’ awarded him 3 Grammys in 1976 and remains one of the best-selling jazz albums of all-time, certified three times platinum. As the lights dimmed, the 80-year Benson was greeted to roaring cheers and a standing ovation as he coolly swaggered to the microphone, looking dapper in his pink sport jacket, black shirt, and pants. His vocals were clean and energetic. His guitar playing…Flawless. And were backed by his incredibly talented band. Benson’s litany of hits was expertly played in front of a roaring crowd. George was on fire that night!

My name is Steve Cerf and concert photography is my passion. I got into concert photography after seeing a young Freddy Mercury mesmerize his audience at the Philadelphia Civic Center back in 1977. Since then, I have photographed countless live performances of all kinds. Located in Philadelphia, my ability to experience the show and a performer’s essence and “sweat” is what I incorporate into my images.
