I immediately fell in love with Joss Stone's voice when I saw her performance of "People Get Ready" on Jeff Beck's DVD, "Live at Ronnie Scotts." From that time on I waited years for her to perform in our area. I finally got my chance when she headlined The Chesapeake Blues Festival in Annapolis, MD.

After a 3 1/2 drive, and standing in sweltering 95 degree heat and bright sunshine for 10 1/2 hours (YES 10 1/2 hours) ...  Joss hit the stage. Dressed in a sequin evening gown and barefooted (her signature look), the British soul singer certainly did not disappoint my expectations. Stone sang a compilation of songs from her 7 studio albums, including her latest, Never Forget My Love."

A bit of a hippie, the now 35 year old (and 5 month pregnant)  Stone rose to fame at only 16 with her multi-platinum The Soul Sessions. She was very chatty, smiling & giggling a lot. Her voice...soulful & intoxicating. After 3 encore songs, "Midnight Train to Georgia," " I Say a Little Prayer," and "It's a Man's Man's World" she finished the show with her signature "Right To Be Wrong"

The question is, would I wait again in 10 1/2 hours in blistering heat & humidity to see her again?

ABSOLUTEY!  Definitely worth the severe sunburn and risk of heat stroke.

Make sure to do whatever you can to see Joss Stone live in concert and click here for tour dates!

My name is Steve Cerf and concert photography is my passion. I got into concert photography after seeing a young Freddy Mercury mesmerize his audience at the Philadelphia Civic Center back in 1977. Since then, I have photographed countless live performances of all kinds. Located in Philadelphia, my ability to experience the show and a performer’s essence and “sweat” is what I incorporate into my images.
