Rod Stewart hit the stage recently at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City. He opened the set with Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love” with his all-female entourage (what else would you expect?) dressed up just like the video. But it turned out, his backing models were an incredibly talented set of musicians who could really sing, play percussion, fiddle, harp, and even dance a jig.

For a Rod Stewart concert, it’s all about a total experience. Rod was in total command tonight as he danced, strutted & strolled about the stage, tapping into his catalogue of hits. The audience had a great evening & so did Stewart and his band. It’s hard to imagine this might be his last rock tour. In a recent Forbes interview, he expects to stop playing his hits by the end of next year. “I don’t want to be singing ‘Hot Legs” when I’m 80.” But to his audience he will always be “Forever Young.”

Opening the night was Cheap Trick. Their hour-long set balanced fewer known songs with their hits, “Surrender”, “Ain’t That a Shame”, and naturally, “I Want You to Want Me.” Lead Singer, Robin Zander, now 69, still sounded great and Rick Nielsen donned his famous baseball cap and played his guitar full throttle.

My name is Steve Cerf and concert photography is my passion. I got into concert photography after seeing a young Freddy Mercury mesmerize his audience at the Philadelphia Civic Center back in 1977. Since then, I have photographed countless live performances of all kinds. Located in Philadelphia, my ability to experience the show and a performer’s essence and “sweat” is what I incorporate into my images.
