What do you get when you combine a punk band from the mid-70s with two younger bands and put them on stage at The Stone Pony? You get a night of punk and post-punk that you will not forget.

The Night Birds opened the evening with pure punk ethos, and they delivered a performance that could have come directly from a CBGBs all-ages hardcore matinee. This is a band that consistently puts on a high-energy show. If you miss the old NJHC scene – this is the band to see.

Baby Shakes also offered up post-punk rock reminiscent of many of the all-women bands of the 1980 punk scene. Filled with catchy melodic hooks and a hard edge that kept everyone's attention I truly enjoyed their performance. I should have already known about this band, but now I do and it was a great experience.

The Damned showed that age is just a number and played the pure punk show that we all would expect. Although Captain Sensible was not on guitar, Queens of The Stone Age's Troy Van Leeuwen was a very worthy fill-in. The room was packed, and the band rocked. There is nothing better than a lead singer with an English accent.

Born from an existential argument between the modernists and postmodernists, I have found my home with the post-punks and those who love a good slice of pizza. I live in a world of art in the age of mechanical reproduction and the ever-elusive decisive moment. Punctum and Stadium aside, I like to take photographs of people and things to see how they look photographed. While I miss CBGBs, I think Asbury Park is as close as we are ever going to get to making punk whatever we make it to be. The future is unwritten and I owe it all to Mr. Bradley and Mr. Martin. Let us now praise famous men and ask the little prince for his thoughts. Sometimes I'm on the road, but If it wasn’t for the honor of the thing, I’d rather walk. My loving wife supports this albatross of an obsession and my kids put up with me well. BA, MFA, M.Ed., BCEA, Tri-X, and Nikon.
