It’s no secret that the live music scene has been drastically affected these past 7 months. Many artists have lost a majority (if not all) of their gigs and release dates have been pushed back indefinitely; however for some artists the show must go on. For Asbury Park supergroup The Foes of Fern, 2020 has been both a productive and challenging year. Thankfully, circumstances allowed the group to celebrate the release of debut album Carpe Diem with an intimate outdoor show hosted by Asbury Sunset Presents. Organized by Tim Cabrey and benefiting the Center of Asbury Park, the small-scale show’s lineup included Foes' member and local singer-songwriter Jessie McCormick, up-and-coming Country/Folk artist Connor Myers along with local scene veteran Bobby Mahoney in a solo acoustic performance. All four acts delivered strong and vibrant performances that despite current mandates, still allowed for genuine connection and interaction among the audiences. For the Foes themselves, it was a joyous and exhilarating performance to hear their latest record in the flesh and despite the many moving parts delivered a seamless, high-energy and well-rounded set showcasing it’s varied cast of musicians with skill and ease.

The proceedings were well-organized and encouraged social distancing and safety mandates effectively while still allowing audiences to purely enjoy some good old-fashioned rock and roll music for what felt like the fist time in ages. More importantly, it was truly refreshing to see local artists come together and celebrate the gradual return of local music in a fun and sincere manner. With the combination of talent and effort involved in both keeping audiences safe and entertained, live outdoor music has presented itself as a worthy alternative in these current times. And last but not least, credit goes to local label Telegraph Hill Records for organizing an efficient and smoothly run livestream, as well as showcasing some of the scene’s strongest and most prominent talent in a time where their presence was most deeply needed. Even from a distance, great local music is still kicking and was a truly beautiful sight to behold. Be sure to follow Asbury Sunset Presents for more updates on future socially-distanced events and follow Telegraph Hill Records for more news regarding your favorite local artists. Also be sure to follow The Foes of Fern, Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son, Connor Myers and Jessie McCormick to keep updated on their latest artistic endeavors and be sure to stream the Foes latest record Carpe Diem out now on all streaming platforms!
