If there’s been a recurring theme in most aspects of music and life in general these days, it's that of embracing change or a new direction. For local Indie/alternative outfit Drive,Kid’s newest single “Lucy," the band finds themselves gravitating away from their pop-punk roots and embracing a mature, soulful and introspective new direction all while displaying their sonic and lyrical progression in the process. The single has an immediately engaging atmosphere thanks to it’s new-wave and ALT Rock-inspired production and soulful vocal lead by vocalist Stephen Bradford that showcases a newfound sophistication to their arrangements.

The track benefits from its well-rounded nature which contrasts their more introspective side with their pop-punk influences, and seamlessly incorporates a powerful guest vocal performance from Sierra Binondo of local NJ progressive rock group With Sails Ahead. As a track, “Lucy” also highlights the band’s continued chemistry and musicality including strong backup vocals from guitarist and songwriter Nick Manduley and equally engaging work on bass, keys and drums by Stephen Bradford, Mark Rodriguez and Connor Hastings.

As the lead single for their latest musical direction, “Lucy” is an accomplished number that features some of Drive,Kid’s richest songwriting and musical progress while displaying a new-found versatility and artistry to their overall sound. If their upcoming music follows this pattern, this may very well be their defining era. Be sure to check out the single on all streaming platforms and follow Drive, Kid for more updates on future releases!
