An artist’s debut single can indicate quite a bit about their potential and emerging direction while also giving listeners a notable first impression. Songwriter and guitarist Eric Schwartz (who’s currently in NJ ALT-pop band, Malibu) has ventured out on his first solo effort as MilkMan with a delightfully hilarious - yet absurdly heartbreaking - debut single “Tuna For Dinner(FMHA).” The song draws it’s musical influences from indie-garage rock and shoegaze with an undercurrent of Alt-Pop in its infectious melodies and structure. The track also benefits from Schwartz’s lyrical perspective which tackles the traditional themes of heartbreak and angst with a refreshingly acerbic sense of humor and a wonderfully off-kilter yet engaging hook that anchors the song. The production has an organic DIY approach, that’s naturalistic but surprisingly sophisticated, with an emphasis on chord progression embedded by some hypnotic and compelling melodies giving the track a genuine sense of momentum and flair. The single also benefits from a genre-fluid sensibility that offers a strong balance between exuberant pop and groove-filled Indie rock resulting in a well-rounded and dynamic listening experience. That experience is bolstered by Schwartz’s tastefully understated yet sincere vocal performance that emphasis the emotion of the track without letting it slip into melodrama or hysterics.

Overall, as a lead single and introduction to Schwartz’s solo project MilkMan, “Tuna For Dinner(FMHA)" is an engaging and original statement with plenty of humor, heart and craft to spare. This track makes for a worthy showcase of Schwartz’s potential and if the rest of his upcoming music follows suit, then some satisfying tunes will certainly be on the menu as well. Stream the single on all available platforms and don’t forget to follow Eric and his band Malibu on all streaming and social media platforms as well!
