Atmospheric death metal project World Eater independently released their debut EP A Blight Upon All on March 19th. The New Jersey-based duo is composed of vocalist Ed Pacella and Mom Fight bassist Evan Conway providing guitars and bass. Pacella and Conway worked together to program the EP’s drum performances, molding them perfectly to the devastating riffs and breakdowns strewn across the release.

A Blight Upon All kicks off with the track “Scourge,” fading in with an ocean of buzzing white noise that gives way to low-end bass chugging before down-tuned guitars begin slamming away against crushing drums. The tune shifts gears and launches forward with fast-paced riffage and Pacella’s immaculate low screams. After slamming and screaming its way back into some bass-led riffage, “Scourge” pounces into its ending breakdown.

Rend the Earth, Asunder” keeps up the forward momentum with biting death metal riffage. After a gnarly verse from Pacella, the tune enters a half-timed slam riff that will surely fan the flames of any fabled post-COVID mosh pit. The track picks up in energy, grinding its way in and out head-spinning breakdowns.

The release draws to a close with the energetic “Uroboros.” The track weaves in and out of hair-spinning riffs and breakdowns, signaling it as a great hype-track for live performances (y’know, for when those were a thing). Heavy and rambunctious, “Uroboros” offers an energetic and dissonant end to A Blight Upon All.

A Blight Upon All is now available on all major streaming services.
