Final Countdown Begins for the 2nd Annual Sea Hear Now Music Festival

August 20, 2019

By Diane DiMemmo

With little more than a month away, Sea.Hear.Now festival attendees are excitedly counting the days (and sleeps) until the 2nd Annual Music Festival hits the Asbury Park Beaches and Bradley Park. The lineup is chock-full of today’s best and brightest musicians (29 to be exact); many who also surf and are visual artists as well! The music lineup is what initially draws fans in, yet the added experiences of surfing heats, yoga sessions, sustainability initiatives, art exhibitions, and even after-hours concerts (tickets still available) … make this music festival unlike any other. A testament to that fact is how early the General Admission, VIP, and Group tickets sold out in only the second year! For more information on purchasing the Ultimate VIP Experience or verified resale tickets, click here

Music lovers understand the challenge in having to choose one performance over another at festivals, since certain set times will overlap over multiple stages. (It’s a tough choice for our media coverage as well, as we want to report it all!) So, let’s review the lineup together so we are all familiar with the amazing bands participating in Sea.Hear.Now! The artists below will be performing on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST.  (Check back soon for our article highlighting Sunday's artists.)

Take a quick moment to comment below with the songs you hope your favorite bands play at Sea.Hear.Now! You never know ... they may see your comments and include your favorite songs in their set!!!

Artists Performing on Saturday, September 21st

"On The Lumineers’ audacious new album, III (Dualtone, September 13), every note, every syllable, and every moment of silence in between is emotionally charged. Through its course, songwriters Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites make it emphatically clear that the arrangements don’t have to be dense for the songs to be intense."  Read more ...

"Rainbow Kitten Surprise and all five of its members hail from the mountains of Boone, North Carolina. With chilling harmonies, dynamic instrumentation, and introspective lyrics, their genre-defying sound takes influence from artists like Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon as much as Frank Ocean and Schoolboy Q.Read more ...

"Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard- rocking Blackhearts, with whom she has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she's had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover." She sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records." Read more ...

"In just a few years, The Struts have found themselves massively embraced by some of the greatest icons in rock-and-roll history. Along with opening for The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Guns N’ Roses, the U.K.-bred four-piece was hand-picked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their last-ever performances, while Dave Grohl praised them as the best band to ever open for Foo Fighters. After making their full-length debut with 2016’s Everybody Wants, The Struts now return with YOUNG&DANGEROUS — a sophomore album that cements their status as one of the most unstoppably passionate and endlessly thrilling bands making rock music today."  Read more ...

"Sharon Van Etten’s Remind Me Tomorrow comes four years after Are We There, and reckons with the life that gets lived when you put off the small and inevitable maintenance in favor of something more present. Throughout Remind Me Tomorrow, Sharon Van Etten veers towards the driving, dark glimmer moods that have illuminated the edges of her music and pursues them full force. With curling low vocals and brave intimacy, Remind Me Tomorrow is an ambitious album that provokes our most sensitive impulses: reckless affections, spirited nurturing, and tender courage."  Read more ...

"To create his fifth full-length album Start Livin’, Hawaii-based singer/guitarist/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter holed up in a Southern California studio for seven days with his longtime bassist Matt Grundy—and no one else. The follow-up to 2010’s Glow, Start Livin’ is a nine-track selection of folk-infused songs that sweetly reflect the simplicity of their recording. With its smooth showcasing of Frankenreiter’s rich, honey-thick vocals and masterful guitar work, Start Livin’ bears all the intimacy of an impromptu back-porch performance and the tenderness of a treasured love letter.Read more ...

"FANTASTIC NEGRITO the incarnation of a musician who is reborn after going through a lot of awful shit. In fact, the name Fantastic Negrito represents his third rebirth, literally coming back from death this time. The narrative on this man is as important as the sound, because the narrative is the sound. Songs born from a long hard life channeled through black roots music. Slide guitar, drums, piano. Urgent, desperate, edgy."  Read more ...

"Twenty-five years after the release of their self-titled debut – an album that fused southernpsych-rock influences with nineties-era alt-grunge – Blind Melon is returning to the studio and the stage. The internet age has made rediscovering the gems of eras past all too easy and reunion tours of old material an obvious choice. But despite the fact that the band’s breakout single, “No Rain,” became one of the most indelible music videos of the 90’s—or any era for that matter—Blind Melon’s return is no exercise in nostalgia. With new members and new material defined by powerhouse harmonies, the band sounds both fresh and familiar.Read more ...

"After their recent splash on the music scene in late 2017, six-person band WORK IN PROGRESS has been making waves with their refreshing and invigorating on-stage energy accompanied by their fervent fans. The six-piece band from Little Egg Harbor, NJ is comprised of Chad Miller (20; Guitar), Griffin Schriever (20; Guitar), Matt Grayson (16; Bass), and siblings Carmen (15; Drums), Sabrina (20; Vocals) and Gaten Matarazzo (16; Vocals). They recently added Matt’s brother, AJ to complete the line up, and the band is currently in the studio working on their debut original EP."  Read more ...

"Beach Rats are a band featuring an all-star cast of scene veterans including Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Ari Katz (Lifetime), Bryan Kienlen and Pete Steinkopf (The Bouncing Souls) and more. Beach Rats play a brand of hardcore/punk that stays true to their members' roots while creating something completely fresh and urgent."  Read more ...

"Black Pumas are the answer to the exciting question of what it would sound like if Sam Cooke or Neil Young joined the Wu-Tang Clan. The Texas-based duo of Adrian Quesada (sword-sharp production, guitar) and Eric Burton (shivering vocal, guitar) are experienced musicians rather than ingenus, but the songs they’ve assembled on their self-titled debut revivify the sound and feel of 70s soul in a surprisingly fresh way."  Read more ...
